It has been over two months since I joined AAB People, I can’t believe how quickly it has gone! My journey so far has been fantastic. The whole team has welcomed me in with open arms and it is amazing to be part of such an open-minded and progressive business. I’m very excited to see where the future takes me with AAB People!
My background
Before joining the company, I had recently graduated from university and gained just over one years’ experience in the HR field.
I studied International Business Management BA(Hons) at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. I had completed several HR modules throughout this course and decided that I wanted to specialise in this area before moving into a workplace. I relocated to Glasgow and completed MSc Human Resource Management at the University of Strathclyde where I also gained a level 7 CIPD membership.
Shortly after graduating, the COVID pandemic hit and I spent lockdown working in a customer service role which shortly led to my first short-term HR Admin job for the NHS. This experience led me onto my first permanent HR position within the hospitality sector. I learnt so much in my first role from payroll and recruitment to employee relations cases. When the HR Advisor position at AAB People arose in May this year, I knew that it was the right time to make the move and develop my career further.
AAB People Team
I feel extremely grateful to work with such a great team at AAB People. From day one everyone made me feel so welcome and it put me at ease instantly. The induction process was also great, I got the opportunity to meet with individual team members to discuss their role, clients, and current projects. After my first week I felt as though I had been part of AAB People for years!
The culture is a breath of fresh air, it is amazing to see how collaborative and supportive the whole team are. Everyone is happy to help, and no question ever seems too silly! Since joining the business, I have been given the freedom to choose when to work at home or in the office, which has created such a positive work-life balance. There is a clear trust within the whole team and I’m very grateful to be part of a company who operate a hybrid working pattern.
Projects I’ve Worked On
Over my first two months, I have worked with several clients and had exposure to many different projects. I have completed work for PowerPhotonic, Optima Partners, Krotos, Pogo Studio, and many more! Bouncing between different clients has resulted in there being no end to learning opportunities and no working day has ever been the same. Working within a HR consultancy is much different to the internal HR departments I was used to and I find the variety really motivating and exciting.
So far, I have had the opportunity to work on:
- Salary Benchmarking – Company wide benchmarking projects to enable clients to create salary banding.
- Employee Engagement Surveys – Supporting clients onsite with the creation and delivery of employee engagement surveys to help them understand key takeaways.
- Breathe HR set up – Supporting clients to set up HR software for holiday requests, sickness/absence tracking, document storage, HR reporting and much more.
- International recruitment – Assisting clients with international job vacancies (specifically USA) including scheduling interviews and liaising with recruitment agencies.
- Networking – Attending networking events & having the opportunity to meet like-minded businesses in the Glasgow area.
The Future
There have been several new people join the team since I started – I wasn’t the new one for long! It is great to be a part of the company scaling up after being acquired by AAB.
Although I have only been here for a few months, I am extremely excited to see what the future holds for my career within AAB People and the company itself!
