As proud participants on the first cohort of businesses on the Unlocking Ambition Scottish Enterprise-backed programme, AAB People have received incredible support and mentoring for our own business growth journey. We were therefore delighted to have the opportunity to give something back through our participation in the “Unlocking YOUNG Ambition” initiative.
“Unlocking YOUNG Ambition” is a programme which gives students aged 16-30 an inspirational opportunity to be part of the Unlocking Ambition programme, including a work based project and mentoring session within some of Scotland’s top entrepreneurs. AAB People were delighted to be invited to participate in this new scheme as mentors to the next generation of young entrepreneurs.
College students Fiona Petrie and Chloe Reid joined us for two days and were involved in mini-work based projects around market research, communications and social media. They had the opportunity to spend time with members of the team understanding the roles and responsibilities within the business, gain an insight into the operations and systems used in a small business, as well as spending time with our Founder, Lisa Thomson, learning about her own journey as an entrepreneur and the growth of AAB People.
We asked them to tell us about their time with us and reflect on their learnings …
“I came to AAB People to learn more about the HR side of business. The two day placement was an informative and useful learning experience. It was great to learn about what the company does on a day to day basis and be given interesting projects to work on.” – Fiona Petrie
“While at AAB People we were tasked with a market research and social media task. This helped me learn more about how to promote a business and I also learned more about software systems and ways of starting up a business. Unlocking Young Ambition has not only given me some valuable experience, but it has also helped me learn more about which role I would like to have within a business in the future.” – Chloe Reid
We hope their experience with us further inspired them to start their own businesses in the future and helped them to develop the skills needed to do this.
Thank you to Fiona and Chloe for joining us and to Unlocking Ambition and Scottish Enterprise for the opportunity to be part of this fantastic initiative to develop entrepreneurial skills in young people.
