“I love being able to leverage technology to enhance what we do”

Susan Hunter is an HR Consultant based in our Belfast office. She specialises in providing HR support for a diverse range of clients offering them expert HR guidance and advice. She partners with both Consultants and Senior Consultants to provide strategic HR solutions on sometimes complex cases. Her ability to navigate intricate workplace issues allows her clients to focus on their core business operations while she ensures compliance, enhances employee relations, and fosters positive workplace cultures.

Leveraging her experience as an in-house HR Manager, Susan brings a wealth of knowledge, ranging from recruitment and employee engagement to organisational development and policy management. She is committed to helping organisations create efficient, people-focused environments that drive both employee satisfaction and business success. Her approach is characterised by thoroughness and empathy, which enables her to tackle difficult HR cases with care and precision

Building successful client relationships

The foundation of every successful client relationship is trust. I believe that getting to know my clients’ unique business operations and understanding their specific needs is key to delivering bespoke and tailored HR support. How do I do that? From the outset I aim to establish rapport and foster trust, ensuring that her clients can rely on her expertise and judgment in even the most sensitive situations.

Commitment to Excellence

What I find most rewarding about working with clients is the opportunity to fully understand their needs and then meet or exceed their expectations. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction that comes from seeing a project through to successful completion, knowing that I’ve made a tangible difference in their operations. I thrive on utilising my knowledge of clients’ organisations and their people to deliver exceptional results that benefit not just the client and the organisation, but their teams as well.

Embracing the benefits of technology

In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, technology is integral to what we deliver. It can help us to save time and promote efficiencies in our clients’ organisations and even within our own to help us to deliver unparalleled service. I love being able to leverage technology to enhance what we do.

However, I’m a firm believer that a computer cannot replace a person or the necessary human element when it comes to HR. That’s why I think it’s important to strike the right balance so we can take the benefits that tech offers us without losing the human touch.

Tackling HR challenges with care

One of the biggest challenges in HR is dealing with some of the most difficult situations in a person’s work life or career. It’s essential to approach these situations with sensitivity and a deep understanding of the potential outcomes. My goal is always to manage these delicate situations with the utmost care, ensuring that all parties feel respected and supported throughout the process.

Passion for people

One of the reasons I joined AAB People is because of the company’s core value: “We respect and trust each other.” After working as an in-house HR Manager for several years, often in solo roles, I was eager to join a team where I could both learn and contribute. The collaborative environment at AAB People has been refreshing. An invaluable tool that we’re able to utilise is the opportunity to share knowledge and experience and tackle complex projects together. Teamwork is an essential element in developing innovative solutions and ensuring that clients receive the highest level of service from us.

Breaking the HR Stigma

I’m fully aware that HR can sometimes be perceived as the “bad guy” in the workplace, or just another email that gets ignored. But I’m here to change that. When employees and management truly engage with HR, it opens up endless opportunities for growth—both personally and for the company as a whole. A strong, proactive HR function can foster a positive culture, enhance team development, and create an environment where people thrive. My goal is to help businesses uncover that potential, ensuring that HR is seen as a vital, empowering part of the organisation, not just an afterthought.
